A Return to Balance

My One Little Word for 2009 was Balance. This weekend I needed to resurrect this word. It's been too much work and not enough play around here. I've been so focused on school and new job opportunities that I've totally put aside the rest of my world, things like crafting and reading and having fun. So this weekend, while I still got some to dos done, I allowed myself a little me time. It was a nicely balanced work and play weekend.

The weekend unfolded like this....

Friday night-I usually don't consider Friday part of my weekend since I work on Saturdays and I rarely go out on a Friday night, but how could I pass up a girls night out invite? Cocktails and Sex in the City 2 and home by 11. Perfect.

Saturday-Super early wake up and morning cancellations meant I could get some studying done and work on a job application. I saw 4 kiddos and headed home for a night of left overs, job applications and knitting. I finished this project, a lovely lace headband:

It still needs to be blocked and some buttons sewn on, but I'm thinking its pretty darn cute. I was watching Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire while knitting, but started fading pretty early. I crawled in bed around 9pm and was sound asleep by 9:30. Wild and crazy Saturday night around here!

Sunday morning I woke up early once again and ended up staying in bed for a couple hours finishing this book. The rest of Sunday was spent entertaining the dogs (we were dog sitting), studying and doing laundry until Shawn and I headed over to our friends house to use the pool. We took a little swim and enjoyed the sun and ordered some Greek take out to pick up on the way home. We had a lazy night of take out, more Harry Potter (I fell asleep halfway through the night before) and more knitting for me. Here's what I was working on last night:

Before bed I started this book, which will also be on the agenda tonight. I've missed reading for fun.

I spent today doing some studying, finishing the laundry, ordering photos and making this for dessert:

Mmmm, Peach Crisp. I think tonight involves more knitting and reading and maybe a little studying.

I didn't clean the house. I didn't cross everything off my to do list. I didn't finish my grad school application, but I do feel much more relaxed and balanced. Mission accomplished.

Here's a little crafty I made on Friday morning when I had a last minute cancellation. Seems I can work fast when I haven't crafted in awhile.

Hope your weekend was good too.

It's Tuesday

So that means its time for another Tuesday 10. Not too much going on around here beyond work and studying, but here goes...

1. Peaches, peaches and more peaches. Went to Schnepf Farms with my mom for the peach festival on Sunday. I picked 9 pounds of organic peaches and brought home a delicious peach pie. Yum! It was well worth the extra studying I had to do once I got home.

2. So far this week I have taken one midterm, one final exam, finished my tutoring, submitted my tutoring report and completed a final project. That means I am crossing one class off my to do list. Phew.

3. The rest of the week includes lots of phonics work, virtual practicum and studying for the state special ed exam.

4. I must also work on job applications, though I'm still waiting on letters of recommendation from clients. Kind of stressing about this actually. If it were up to me, my apps would have been submitted a week ago.

5. Must also finish grad school app and FAFSA. Oh and schedule my Miller's Analogy Test. Fun stuff.

6. One of these days I might actually craft again. My knitting bag sits at my feet most evenings just taunting me and I have a felt project that really wants my attention.

7. Good thing I've been commissioned to make a baby shower banner, for which I have ordered this fabric and this fabric. I have a deadline for this project, so I HAVE to craft. hee.

8. Peach pie. Hmm, did I mention that already?

9. I did actually order some photos for my unfinished week in the life project late last night. Hoping I'll have some time to play with them when they get here.

10. I had a little helper to water my plants yesterday. Miss Amelia stopped by with her Mama. She came in looking for "tur" and then headed right to the back door to see the fish. I didn't get a hug until they left. I see how I rate.

I'd best go study for a bit before Glee.

Happy Tuesday.

A Case of the Crazies

Dear Blogland,

I have developed a severe case of the crazies. Symptoms include no time for anything but studying. This case of the crazies is caused by 2 midterms, 1 final exam, 1 final project and a state special ed exam all due by June 5th. Due to this sudden affliction, my blog may be a little neglected for the next few weeks. Some day, I shall return to my usual craft loving, inspiration linking, photo posting, more sane self. Until then, you'll have to tide yourself over with my occasional quick post, tweet or FB rambling.

Thanks for your patience,

Slightly stressed out blogger

I took tons and tons of photos at the tulip fields. Here are more of my favorites:
